The Annual Egg Hunt is ON!
That's right. 56 eggs were hidden in the dorm on Monday night, after all the boarders were snug in their beds. As of today, 13 eggs remain hidden. Sneaky! Here are pics of some of our favorite eggies, waiting to be discovered...

A Red-Letter Week in the Barn!
Oh, this has been a very joyful week in our dorm.First, we celebrated Valentine's Day by sneaking out of study hours (with permission) on Monday night to see the movie Valentine's Day. It wasn't the most profound movie ever, but it was uplifting and fun to all laugh and groan and sing and clap together.
Then, on Tuesday night we celebrated Kandice and Alicia's birthdays with cheesecake and the birthday song.
We welcomed a new resident in our dorm--Kirin, from Pennsylvania (and more recently, Trapelo dorm). We celebrated Black History Month with videos, slam poetry, and a few unsung heroes.
And we ended the night wi
th a Red Envelope Treasure Hunt in honor of the Lunar New Year, which is celebrated at home by the Barn's Korean, Chinese, and Taiwanese students. Traditionally, elders give children money in little red envelopes. That wasn't quite in our dorm budget, so we put candy in the envelopes--and one very lucky "get out of a warning free" coupon. While students were in study hours, we hid them ALL over the dorm and sent them off on a treasure hunt at the end of dorm meeting. It was SO MUCH FUN. And, we have some VERY good searchers! The coupon was actually in the last envelope found--by Rowan, who said she needs it. =)But...we found one envelope that was still hidden after all the girls had given up...which means the dorm parents are quite clever and proud of ourselves.

Congrats to Lia!
Our winning students, along with other winners from Massachusetts, will be recognized at a ceremony on Feb. 14, and their work is currently on exhibit at the Transportation Building in Boston until March 19, 2010.
The winning artwork was selected from 6,500 individual and 500 portfolio submissions from students in grades 7-12 in public, private, and parochial schools in Massachusetts. The Boston Globe awards program is an affiliate of the national Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, which is now in its 86th year and is the longest running recognition programs for student artists and writers in the United States.
Go Lia!

Monday Night in the Barn
oday we celebrated Asha and Shari's half-birthdays. Since their birthdays are in the summer, they miss out on celebrating at school. And that's really not fair. Shari requested veggies and dip, and Asha wanted cupcakes! We also celebrated Black History Month, with a whole bunch of quotes, some Malcolm X Trivia, and a beautiful, powerful poem.
We hope all of our friends out there are thinking about what Black History Month means to them...to the world...
