Happy Birthday, Lia!

Sunday was Lia's birthday, and not only did we have the birthday song, and her requested strawberries, but we also had the most amazing cupcakes, which her family sent her since they were stuck in Colorado and couldn't celebrate with her in person. That was so sweet! Literally!

This last picture was Jane giving Julia a very bumpy piggy back ride! (too much sugar?)

Helen Speaks at Admissions Open House

Helen was asked to be one of 4 speakers about the CSW student experience at the Admissions Open House this past Sunday. She gave such a fabulous, articulate, authentic speech! We were so proud of her! And--of Courtney, Cheyenne, Briana, and Jenny, who helped with registration and were super-personable, and of Shari, who represented the dance department in the academic fair.

We celebrated Courtney's birthday tonight, with the beloved shaved-ice fruit thingamajigs that everyone loves so much--and some juice. And the birthday song, of course!

Pumpkin Carving Party

Look at that super-complicated wolf!

Briana was so thoughtful and sweet and brought a whole bunch of cute little pumpkins and right this minute they are downstairs carving away. Courtney is playing DJ and there's a lovely sing-a-long providing the soundtrack for tonight. Can't wait to see all of the finished pumpkins!

The play was AMAZING!

I just got back from the play, which had the most amazing set--and the most amazing cast (what with three of our Barnies in it and two behind the scenes.) Sarah H-F, Cheyenne, and Lia were on stage, Rowan worked on the set and was a house manager, and Cynthia worked on lighting. We couldn't be more proud of all the hard work they put in--and it really paid off!

Dorm Meeting

Check out the video below of the winning team getting untangled!

Our dorm leaders think of fun 'ice breaker' games we can play at the beginning of each dorm meeting--they help us build dorm unity (usually by sharing lots of laughter). Tonight we did the human knot...which is VERY challenging with so many people in such a small space! But they were victorious! (mostly)

We also shared "high's and low's" and it was really amazing to just take some time to see how everyone was feeling and to celebrate and sympathize with them.

We finished the meeting by learning to greet each other in our four languages, which sounds something like this (phonetically, of course):

Mandarin: Nee-hao
Korean: Anyoung
Spanish: Hola
Danish: Hi! (that one's easy).

Melisa and Michael's Pumpkin Carving

Michael and I carved pumpkins this weekend! Don't be too impressed--we used a kit. And after a mere two and a half hours we had these! Sadly, we also found out you shouldn't carve pumpkins two weeks before Halloween. My monster (we called him Robbie) already started shriveling. =( I miss him. Michael's cowering little guy is still in one piece...so far...

Tai's "Walking a Life of Death"

At the end of each Mod, we all get together in the student gallery to celebrate the student art work created during that mod. It's a bit belated, but I went down to the gallery to try to capture at least some of the artwork from each of the Barnies represented in the art show so everyone can appreciate how talented and creative they are!

Announcing our Sweatshirt Design Winners...

Cheyenne and Niko! Niko designed the winning chest logo, two hands forming a heart with the word Barn inside of the heart. Cheyenne created the winning design for the back of the sweatshirt...a superman logo shape with the word Barn and the names of all of the students' in the barn around the perimeter.

We had a lot of great designs, and we want to thank everyone brave enough to put themselves out there by submitting a design.

Hearty congratulations to Niko and Cheyenne!

Go, London!

London, a 9th grade addition to the Barn from CT, showed in her first horseback riding competition today. She took home a lot of ribbons for her first show--a 3rd place horsemanship ribbon (For how good London looked and handled her horse), a 2nd place pleasure ribbon (for how good her horse looks when she shows him), and a 4th place ribbon in trail class.
